Update October 25, 2026
⚠️ Attention: Change in presentation room
Due to the high number of registrations, the astronomy course will not take place in the chapel as originally planned, but in the auditorium in Building A.
The venue has changed—the dates remain the same.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Update October 16, 2026
To get you in the mood for the PRESENTATION WHAT IS LIGHT? On Wednesday, October 21, 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the Audimax, I can offer two tips:
First, the excellent podcast „Sternengeschichten“ by Florian Freistetter
- Episode 163: Measuring the Speed of Light
- Episode 251: The Speed of Light.
Virtually all of the videos are under 10 minutes long.
As a trained astronomer, he is able to explain complex topics exceptionally well and in a clear, accessible way, so that almost anyone can understand them—even without much prior knowledge—at the latest after listening to the recording a few times; and his technical expertise is, of course, guaranteed.
Second,, The award-winning „100sekundenphysik“ series on YouTube. It was launched by Leon Baar, a high school student who was 16 at the time, and explains physics concepts and theories in a short, concise, and entertaining way.
Light, after all, involves quantum mechanical processes that seem completely incomprehensible and impossible from a „normal“ perspective. Renowned physicists have said that these processes can only be understood through calculations and not through analogies to our „normal, macroscopic, real“ environment.
Here, though, is a well-made short clip that offers a glimpse into the „crazy world of quantum physics“
https://www.youtube.com/watch?
The explanations are spoken quite quickly in all the clips, so just select a slower playback speed and maybe listen to them a few times.
To everyone attending the lecture in person, here's a suggestion:
After the lecture and the subsequent Q&A and discussion session, course participants in attendance are welcome to meet with me briefly in the lobby of the Audimax.
Best regards

Update October 13, 2026
Dear Participants,
I'd like to remind you once again about the next lecture and add a brief note about it.
Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 7:00 p.m.
What Is Light? – On Rays, Waves, and Quanta
Prof. Dr. Sascha Skorupka, Professor of Physics and Engineering, Fulda University of Applied Sciences
To get you in the right frame of mind for this topic, I’d like to recommend Florian Freistetter’s excellent podcast, „Sternengeschichten.“.
Specifically, episodes 163, “Measuring the Speed of Light,” and 251, “Speed of Light.”.
According to followers, some episodes are even easy for children to follow.
See you in a week—hopefully as many of you as possible.
